Favorite foods:
While dieting I love my eggwhite omelets with onions, red peppers & asparagus with grits or oatmeal for breakfast. Grilled chicken or baked tilapia & asparagus with red pepper hummus (I cut the hummus 8 weeks out from my show) for lunch, lettuce wraps with ground turkey and low sodium salsa for dinner. When I can be a bit more relaxed with my diet I add in almond butter into my grits/cream of brown rice or oatmeal in the morning, brown organic rice or a sweet potato with lunch & sometimes dinner. I really enjoy going to dinner once a week whether it's sushi or out to a great steak house like Grill 23 or Ruth Chris’s for lamb chops or a filet & Shiraz. There are very few foods I don’t like! I am actually working on a cook book filled with all of my diet and contest prep friendly recipes!

Favorite movies:
Anything but gory horror movies. I love documentaries, fun movies like Tommy Boy, all Adam Sandler flicks. I like action movies like The Gladiator, Braveheart, and The Patriot. I have recently watched a few GREAT ones. Eastern Promises with Vigo Mortensen and also Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon - AWESOME!

Favorite types of music:
When I train I like to listen to techno, top 40 or hard rock. Relaxing I love Sinatra, Michael Buble, some good old school reggae is always fun, Sublime, maybe some Hawaiian music like IZ, Keili'i Reichel.

Favorite quote:
"Every Success is built on the ability to do
better than good enough" ~ “Be who you are and say what you feel because those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter.”

Best body part:
I am told my back and my legs/butt. My favorite workout is legs and shoulders. I am thankful I am naturally evenly proportioned.

Hobbies:
I’ve always been active and loved sports & the outdoors. I’m a big Red Sox fan and Patriots fan. I really enjoy cooking – I love to experiment with different spices and foods. I have had a passion for cooking/baking since I was young. Its incredible how delicious ‘dieting’ can really be!! I love taking pictures of my family & friends – as well as beautiful landscapes and scenery. Photos bring back the emotional connection you have with that certain time in your life and the memories and feelings that may have faded with that particular event. When I lived in Hawaii I started surfing and fell in love with it! Whether you’re sitting on your board in between sets and are blessed enough to see dolphins, some sea turtles or catch a glimpse of some whales in the distance, or if you’re up on your board with the roar of the wave behind you…..it’s a calm, peaceful adrenalin rush that can’t be explained. I travel every chance I get. There are few islands throughout the Caribbean I haven’t been to.

Favorite cheat foods:
I’m a real carnivore, I enjoy meat and lots of it! Lamb chops medium rare, or a filet rare + with a glass or 2 of Shiraz. I also make these cookies that are outrageous! They are chocolate chip peanut butter chip coconut cookies....TO DIE FOR!

Favorite Drink:
While dieting either water or fresca or diet root beer, (I cut out diet soda 2 weeks out) when I am not dieting I occasionally enjoy red wine or an espresso martini (no baileys)

Are there any other physical activities you enjoy to stay fit?
I try and keep as active as possible - when the weather cooperates I love to be outdoors running, hiking, biking, or just doing whatever. When I travel to the warmer climates I surf, dive, kayak and snorkel every chance I get. I'm up for almost anything!

Something someone wouldn't know about you:
I used to be really chunky when I was little into my teenage years. I can move my nose like a bunny rabbit, I love sharks and I lived in Hawaii (on the Big Island, Kona side) for 4 years. I make my own red sauce that’s ridiculous!

How long have you been training?
I have been training for over 10 years - I have gotten a lot more focused and educated over the past 5 years or so.

Competing
I have always enjoyed training and working out - living and maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. I had been making my boyfriends meals when he diets for his shows and making the same food for myself to minimize my time I spend in the kitchen. As I started dieting with him, the changes I saw in my physique were incredible....so I decided to take it to the next level and get on stage! The process is amazing - being able to set personal goals and achieve them gives me such a sense of accomplishment. I really enjoy each step of the preparation you go through when preparing for your show - from pushing my body to the limit and seeing the changes I am able to make, to picking out the colors and fabrics of your suits and rhinestone patterns to the make-up & hair! The whole experience is so much fun. Not to take away from the grueling dieting and hard work that goes into it......don't get me wrong! At 4:45 when that alarm buzzes and it's below zero out and I am utterly EXHAUSTED I want nothing more than to stay all snuggled up in bed! But it is so worth it. Like I said before - the sense of accomplishment, the feeling of being in the best shape of your life - KNOWING in your heart you give your personal best 100% of the time......words can't describe the feeling it gives you inside.

What was your first show like?
I LOVED it. Having the people who love you there for support is key – having your significant other be there for you and understand plays a huge role in the process. My family has been there excited for me every step of the way. I was nervous when I first got out on stage....but when I looked out into the crowd and saw my dad smiling like the Cheshire cat - all my nerves went away. He was so funny...he had perma-grin all day. He drove over 2 hours each way to come see me and sat thru both the pre-judging and the finals. It is a long day for the competitors but an equally long and sometimes boring day for the people who come to support you as well! I won my first show so now I'm addicted!

What do you dislike about competing?
As I said, I really did enjoy all of it. I guess the things I didn't like were the Pro Tan clogging my skin and turning everything orange, and LIVING on the rotating stairmill….the dreaded “gauntlet”. Sometimes when you're dieting and there is a great party to go to - or your friends or family are going out for sushi & martinis and you can't go...or can't partake in whatever the festivities may be.....that's a bummer for sure. You have to always keep in the back of your mind that this is a GOAL you have set and it is NOT a forever thing. Eating healthy is a wonderful lifestyle – dieting for a show brings it to a whole new level but normally only lasts between 12-16 weeks. I'll often bring my own pre-packed meals with me. Is it hard? Yes. Does it take discipline? YES. Is it worth it in the end? Absolutely. I remind myself of my goals - how important they are to me - and remind myself that I have 8 weeks left - or whatever the timeframe may be. Like I said - realizing that it's not forever and you may not be able to have martinis and sushi right THEN....or that piece of birthday cake that moment, but they'll all still be there once you've accomplished your goals and that makes the celebration MUCH sweeter.

After it's over:
When the day has come and gone… relax and enjoy! Let your body rest up - take a break from training, allow your muscles and your mind recover and rejuvenate! Go out to your favorite restaurant and enjoy your food, friends, and loved ones! It is easy to forget about the things big & small that really matter in life when you are consumed by preparing for your show. Not worrying about getting to the gym while your dad or boyfriend is talking to you… not having to leave a summer BBQ early so you can go do your second hour of cardio or get home and cook your meals for the next day. Packing your cooler with your meals as you go out for the evening with your boyfriend - we've all been there! So go out to your favorite restaurant, have a martini, stay up late and hit the snooze button in the morning… share a dessert with your significant other. Just enjoy!

What are your goals in the sport?
One of my personal goals is to get my IFBB Pro Card & to represent a company that I believe in within the Body Building/Health & Fitness Industry. Being able to inspire and teach others on a daily basis means so much to me. Nothing in the world feels better than watching someone’s transformation unfold right in front of you. Having the ability to show someone that there is another way of life - another way of living - where you can have the best of all worlds! Be healthy inside and out, add YEARS to your life, feel like a million bucks, LOOK like a million bucks! Introducing a healthier way of living and watching peoples quality of life constantly improve is what it's about. Grandparents who use to never be able to pick up their grandkids now can chase them all over the yard! Someone who use to walk into the gym with their head down, in a big baggy sweatshirt all slouched over with no smile is now walking with a little sass in their step with their shoulders back with their pearly whites gleaming. Putting smiles on other people’s faces and in their hearts are one of the many things in life that make it worth living.
